Top 3 Tips to become super effective

Transcript

Hi, my name is Timon Vinke, thank you for watching and today we’re going to talk about the top three tips to become super effective.

Tip 1: Batching

So let’s kick off with tip number one, batching. So what do I mean by batching? Well basically it means that you’re combining activities that have similar or are similar and you combine them and doing them all at once. So a good example is batching your emails. So throughout the day you will be getting emails every once in a while. So instead of reading them and getting distracted each time you get one email, you schedule time and your schedule time to read all the emails in one time. So for example, one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon and during that one hour you go through all your emails, you reply to all your emails and you make a list of all the actions that follow from reading your emails, right? So that’s batching the emails together.

Another example could be well what I used to do for my blog articles is that I’d batch writing them. Because when I sit and when I need to sit down and write one article, I need to come thinking of a subject and motivate myself, et cetera, et cetera. But once I got into flow of writing, it became much, much easier. So I made use of that by making sure that I would write multiple articles in one time. So I would schedule all morning and would schedule and write maybe three or four articles one after another. And that made me keep stay in the flow of writing and coming up with creative ways to describe certain problems or questions. Right? So that’s batching. So combining different activities that are very similar and combining them and doing one after each other. That will really improve your effectiveness in doing them.

Tip 2: Distraction free Hours

Tip number two, distraction free hours. I mean in the long run you want to maybe have distraction free days, but that might be tricky in the beginning. So let’s start with distraction free hours. So schedule hours where you turn off your phone, turn off your email and you can focus on working on one thing, one important thing for one hour. And if you have never done this before, I can guarantee you that it’s not going to be easy to focus on one thing for one whole hour, so it takes practice. But once you do that, you will be amazed with how much you can accomplish in one hour if you now have nobody disturbing you.

So I mentioned phone and email, but another distraction can be colleagues or coworkers or whatever that are coming knocking on your door or basically having a chat with you. So find a way to dissuade them to disturb you. So maybe you can put up a don’t disturb sign for one hour each day or just find some other method. So distraction free hours, if you haven’t tried it, I really recommend it because it’s such a powerful way to really get a lot of work done in one hour.

Tip 3: Going Cold Turkey

And tip number three is going cold turkey on your work week. So what I mean by that is that if, and this only works if you want to reduce your working hours in your business. So let’s say you’re spending 50 or 60 hours a week in your business and you’re really fed up doing that and you want to reduce it to 40 hours but you don’t see a way how to do that. By going cold turkey, you basically say to yourself, “Okay, starting next week I’m going to work 40 hours and I’m going to stick to it.”

And what that does is that it forces you to get rid of all the things that are not important or that can be postponed to a later date. It also forces you to become creative in finding ways to become more effective with your time because it immediately becomes clear where the problems lie in your work week. Where are the problems occurring? Do you see that, for example, that you don’t have anymore time to, not enough time to check all your emails? Well, maybe you need to find a way to reduce your emails all together or find another way to handle them. Right? So going cold turkey it’s, again, it’s a simple way of doing things. But I can guarantee you, again, it’s not easy. But it is the fastest way I know to reduce your work hours that you spend in a week. It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be difficult. But if you pull it off, you will have very quick, big results.

So those were the three tips for becoming super effective. Do you have any more tips that I can use because I’m always looking for more ways to become more effective. So I would love to hear your tips to becoming super effective. So leave them below in the comments and let’s share with each other what are the best tips to become super effective. See you around. Bye. Bye.
